Conference 2005

Advance Australia Fair
Building Sustainability, Justice and Peace

30-31 July 2005, Melbourne Trades Hall, Carlton South, Melbourne

A HUGE SUCCESS!

"We, participants of the ‘Advance Australia Fair - Building sustainability, justice and peace’ conference, 2005, joined together to promote democratic alternatives to unfettered free trade and free market policies which increasingly limit the capacity of democratic governments and community organisations to achieve social justice, equity, peace, and ecological sustainability."

Read the CONFERENCE STATEMENT - modified by the conference participants on the Saturday 30th and adopted by acclamation on Sunday the 31st at the closing plenary.

330 people from the social justice, environmental, labour and human rights movements joined together to discuss a broad program for progressive social change in Australia. As well as Victoria, converence participants came from South Australia, NSW, Tasmania, Queensland, and the Northern Territory. The fantastic international speakers came from the USA, the Philippines, and New Zealand.

People had a very postitive experience and were reinvigorated to keep working, particularly in the face of the current Howard government. We would like to know what you thought of the conference, if you haven't already, fill in the CONFERENCE FEEDBACK FORM and send it back to us.

Keep watching the CONFERENCE PROGRAM Over the next few weeks, the speeches and outcomes from the plenary and workshop sessions will be uploaded onto this page.
