Response to 'Coping with Globalisation and Market Forces' by the Australian Coalition for Economic Justice.

Globalisation
  • In response to the globalisation of capital we should localise capital and educate the public of the fact that money is printed and cancelled in billions of dollars every day by private trading banks so there is no need for foreign investment
  • We should localise industry ownership so that profits are recycled within the home community
  • There should be a reverse of the financial regulation made in 1983
  • Reintroduce Reserve Bank of Australia and enforce that charter
  • Impose the Tobin Tax
  • Get rid of World Bank and IMF advisors in Australia
  • Support a political party which has an effective policy against present trends
Jobs
  • Dispense with the concept of NAIRU and the idea that we need a base rate of unemployment to prevent inflation
  • Make the public fully aware that unemployment is a result of political policy to incentivise the workforce
  • Reject the concept that the free market is the sole answer to lack of work opportunites
  • Full employment is possible as it has been achieved in the past, especially in wartime. Poverty/Pollution/Inadequate health care etc
  • Give every small business one other employee on subsidised pay to take up the unemployed
  • Acknowledge that the GST has had a serious ill effect
  • Ask ourselves which politicians could put these anti globalisation polices into effect
Industry
  • A change of direction is needed in Canberra on a large scale - sack economic rationalists minded bureaucrats
  • Form a coalition of groups and people to work for green jobs
  • Reregulate essential industries such as Telstra/Banks/Milk production etc
  • We need a 180 degree turn to revert to widespread self sufficiency instead of nations being pushed into specialisation to accord with outdated Ricardo economics
  • Superannuation funds to invest a large set proportion of assets in Australia
  • The government could build structures to take up the unemployed if it were not against their philosophy
Inequality
  • Get rid of capitalism
  • Take a lead from Scandinavian countries on social policy
  • Introduce employees share schemes and worker representation
  • Australia has almost the lowest pension rate in the industrial world
  • Jobs should be created in social work as there is shortage of carers
Taxes
  • Tax reform has been a terrible mess and even Adam Smith wrote strongly against consumption taxes
  • Deposit interest last year has been less than inflation so there has been a defacto on savings ·
  • End trusts and tax evasion schemes and get rid of all loopholes
  • Question the morality of all tax evasion or avoidance
  • New taxes are not necessary. Simply enforce compliance with existing legislation
  • Apply pressure to elected representatives to collect what is properly due to government
